Carrie(2002)Directed By: David Carson
Tagline: If you've got a taste for terror...take Carrie to the prom...
Ahhhhh here we have the made for TV remake of the 1976 adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie. I really wanted to like this film. I loved the book and I also loved the '76 movie. It seemed to me that Angela Bettis(May, Girl Interrupted) would make an amazing Carrietta White. She was absolutely amazing in May. Now we all know that Carrie White is supposed to be a lonely, painfully shy girl with telekinetic powers. She is constantly teased at school and has an abusive, overly religious mother. Angela Bettis seemed to fit that role perfectly. This role is pretty much the same as her role in May. Ms Bettis's performance was a mess. She seemed more like a slow kid than a shy girl. Her performance was actually painful and awkward to watch. Aside from that, the prom scene, supposed to be one of the most badass scenes in movie history, was a CG nightmare. I felt like i was in a playstation one game. 1993's Jurassic Park had better CG than this. I understand this is a made for TV film and Stephen Spielburg can get whatever amount of money he wants for anything, but come on. Super Cheesy. Oh well. Nothing can be done about it now. I wish Sissy Spacek was still young at the time so she could've maybe pulled off a teenager or they could've even done a remake where Carrie made it to college. I don't know, i'm just rambling. Overall this movie was pretty bad. I was severely disappointed in Angela Bettis and the computer effects. It is, however, somewhat enjoyable. There's just something about the Carrie story that gets you hooked. Carrie(2002) gets a 2.5/5.
