Hell of the Living Dead(1980)aka
Virus
Directed By: Bruno Mattei
Tagline: When the creeping dead devour the living flesh!
Here's the gist of this movie. Some experiment goes horribly wrong in a lab in New Guinea and ends up infecting the workers and in turn spreads to the some of the natives of the island. An elite swat team gets sent to New Guinea to find out what's going on and how to stop it. OK. First of all I want to say that this "elite" swat team is the most pathetic squad I have ever seen. That being said, this movie is on par with the swat team. Starting with when the team arrives on the island, every five minutes the shot cuts to some stock footage of either some non infected natives or of the wildlife. For whatever reason we are transported from the jungles of New Guinea(which look like the woods in my backyard) to the plains of Africa to check out some elephants. Anyways, back in the jungle, the team stumbles upon a group of reporters who are there to check out the locals. So they are walking along and come across some hostile zombies, who happen to be blue, and start shooting them. They establish that shooting the undead smurfs in the head kills them instantly.....but from that point on throughout the rest of the movie, the survivors don't shoot a single zombie in the head until they are reminded over and over. Overall, this is a terrible movie. There are some terrible movies that are still OK because you can have a good laugh. This movie tries to take itself way too seriously and falls completely flat on it's face. There is one redeeming quality to this film, however, and that is the hot reporter lady gets naked in order to get closer to the natives of the island. Hell of the Living Dead gets a .5/5.
